Family FAQ

Questions before you apply.

If someone you love is away from yeshiva because of illness, you do not need to figure out the next step alone.

Cost & Eligibility

What it costs and who it's for.

Is there any cost to the family?
No. There is never a cost to the family. Amud Aleph is carried by sponsors so the chaburah, mashpia, and setup can be provided without charging the talmid or his family. [501(c)(3) and tax wording pending confirmation.]
Who is this for?
Amud Aleph is for bochurim and yungeleit who are away from yeshiva or kollel because of illness, hospitalization, treatment, or recovery, and who would benefit from a live Torah chaburah.
Can I apply for someone else?
Yes. A parent, spouse, sibling, chavrusa, hospital chaplain, or close referrer can begin the application. We call the family first and only reach the talmid with permission.

How It Works

After you apply.

What happens after we apply?
A coordinator reviews the application, contacts the family, learns the situation, and explains the next step. If the program is a fit, the team works on matching the talmid to a chaburah and mashpia.
How quickly can it start?
Timing depends on the talmid's needs, schedule, available chaburos, and setup. The coordinator will explain what is possible. [Specific timing not promised until confirmed.]
What if he is too weak to learn that day?
His place is still held. The chaburah is built to respect real hospital conditions, including days when strength is limited.
What if he can only listen?
Then he can listen. The point is not to pressure him into performance. The point is to keep learning close enough for the days he can reach it.

Tablet & Technology

The setup.

Does he need his own device?
In many cases, the program can provide a prepared tablet or help set up access. Exact device availability and setup will be confirmed by the coordinator.
What does the tablet do?
The tablet is meant to help the talmid join the live chaburah and access learning materials or recordings when available. [Browser restrictions, app access, recordings, and return policy pending confirmation.]
What if the hospital Wi-Fi is difficult?
Tell the coordinator. The team will discuss what is possible for that room and situation.

Privacy & Family Contact

Privacy and dignity.

Will you contact the talmid directly?
We contact the family or referrer first. We only reach the talmid directly with permission.
Can the family follow how he is doing?
A coordinator can stay in touch with the family within the boundaries you set. The talmid's privacy and dignity come first.
Is his information kept private?
Yes. Information is used to run the program and coordinate the chaburah. The full privacy policy is being finalized.

Donor / Sponsorship

Giving questions.

Can a chaburah be sponsored l'illuy nishmas?
Yes. Dedication options are available and will be confirmed with the program team.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Tax language is pending final confirmation. Please speak with the organization or your tax advisor before relying on any tax statement.

Still unsure? Start with a conversation.

Apply online or contact a coordinator. We will help you understand whether this is right for the talmid.
